Tournament Rules
To ensure a safe and enjoyable playing environment for all players, officials and spectators, Basketball NSW has in place a Zero Tolerance Policy and Sports Rage Policy for inappropriate behaviour. Coffs Harbour Suns Big Banana Classic abides by this policy. Please ensure all of your players, officials and spectators are familiar with this policy.
1. Unless otherwise stated, the rules of play shall be those of Basketball NSW, and in particular, the BNSW junior representative by-laws (for NEJL).
2. Tournament organisers reserve the right to make decisions regarding any matter not specifically covered in the rules and to make alterations should conditions warrant. The Coffs Harbour Basketball Association will require each team to provide a referee (game payments: $30 per game). Referee details will be required to be provided once nominations have been accepted.
3. TIMING
I.
Games are played in 4 quarters of 10 minutes,
with a 1 minute interval for quarter time and 2 minute half-time interval.
II.
The clock will stop for all timeouts and on each
whistle in the last minute of the game, provided the score between the teams is
10 points or less.
III. Each team is permitted 1 timeout per half.
4. FORFEITS
I.
Teams will be able to take the court with 4
players.
II.
Teams who do not have the minimum number of
players by 10 minutes after the scheduled starting time will forfeit that game.
III. The opposition team will be awarded 2 points for every minute a team is late in starting a game.
5. POINTS ALLOCATION
I.
Win – 3 pts, Draw – 2 pts, Loss – 1 pt, Forfeit
– 0 pts.
II.
Drawn games will be recorded as a draw in all
pool games. In finals, an extra time period of 3 minutes will be played until
there is a result.
III.
If 2 teams in a division finish on equal points,
the winner of the round game will receive the higher placing.
If 3 or more teams in a division finish on equal points, the winner will be
decided on a for and against rating between the teams involved.
If 2 or more teams in a division finish on equal points and haven’t played each
other, the winner will be decided on a for and against rating on all of their
games.
6. SCORE BENCH
I.
All teams are required to provide a bench person
for each game.
II. Games will start once each team has provided a bench person.
7. ELIGIBILITY
I.
No player is permitted to play in an age group
lower than their appropriate age. Players may play in their correct age group
or higher and only for their association.
II.
Players must play in at least 1 game to be
eligible for finals.
