Tournament Rules
To ensure a safe and enjoyable playing environment for all players, officials and spectators, Basketball NSW has in place a Zero Tolerance Policy and Sports Rage Policy for inappropriate behaviour. Coffs Harbour Suns Big Banana Classic abides by this policy. Please ensure all of your players, officials and spectators are familiar with this policy.
- Unless otherwise stated in these regulations, the rules of play shall be those of Basketball New South Wales, and in particular, the BNSW junior representative by-laws (for NEJL).
- Tournament organisers reserve the right to make decisions regarding any matter not specifically covered in the rules and to make alterations should conditions warrant.
- TIMING
- Games will be played in four (4) periods of ten (10) minutes, with a (1) minute interval between the first and second periods, a two (2) minute half time interval and a one (1) minute interval between the third and fourth periods.
- The game will be played with a running clock. The clock stops for all time-outs.
- In addition, in the last two (2) minutes of the fourth quarter, if the score between the teams is within 10 points, the clock will stop for all whistles and successful field baskets (ie… fully timed).
- The twenty-four (24) second shot clock rule will NOT apply.
- Each team is allowed one (1) time out in the first half and two (2) time-outs in the second half. One (1)
additional time-out is allowed in each extra period. - In the case of a tie, extra period/s of three (3) minutes (fully timed) will be played to break a tie with a
two (2) minute interval after the previous period.
- ELIGIBILITY
- All players must be correctly attired in their team uniform.
- Teams using an illegal player in any game will forfeit that game.
- No player is permitted to play in an age group lower than their appropriate age level. Players may play in their correct age group or higher and only their own association.
- Players must play in at least 1 game with a team to be eligible to play finals for the team
- PLAYING BALL
- U12 divisions will use a size five (5) ball
- Girls U14, U16, U18 divisions will use a size six (6) ball
- Boys U14 will use a size six (6) ball
- Boys U16 and U18 will use a size seven (7) ball
Each team is required to provide one (1) person to perform score-bench duty on their own game and sufficient referees.
- POINT ALLOCATION
- Win – 2 pts, Loss – 1 pt, Forfeit – 0 pts.
– If 2 teams in a division finish on equal points, the winner of the round game between those two teams will receive the higher placing.
– If 3 or more teams in a division finish on equal points, the winner will be decided on a for and against rating between the teams involved.
– If 2 or more teams in a division finish on equal points and haven’t played each other, the winner will be decided on a for and against rating on all of their games.
